Data Engineer
About SCRL
SCRL is a mobile-first design platform built for social media and used by millions of creators worldwide.
We're a team based in central Stockholm, working closely across functions with a shared commitment to quality, clarity, and craft.
The role
This is a role with real impact and plenty of room to grow. You'll join the data team and work on the infrastructure that powers SCRL's analytics, forecasting, and AI-driven product features — from event ingestion all the way to the data services our apps rely on.
We're open to a range of experience levels. If you're earlier in your career, you'll learn alongside experienced data and engineering teammates and grow into broader ownership of the systems you build. If you come in with more experience, you'll have the opportunity to shape the direction of our data infrastructure and raise the bar for what we build next.
Either way, you'll work on real systems with real users — and you'll have the freedom to do the best work of your career.
What you will do
Data pipelines & infrastructure
Contribute to our ETL across the stack, helping make it easier to use, more reliable, and clearer when something goes wrong.
Build and maintain ingestion pipelines from the services we rely on (RevenueCat, Firebase Analytics, attribution providers, ad networks, and others) via API and event streaming.
Work in our BigQuery warehouse — schema design, Terraform-managed infrastructure, partitioning, and query optimization for a dataset that serves millions of users.
Develop and maintain GCP Cloud Functions and Cloud Run services for event processing, transformations, and scheduled jobs.
Help evolve our internal Python framework for shared models, utilities, and pipeline components used across the data codebase.
Analytics & modeling support
Bring data scientists' and analysts' models into production so they can be consumed reliably by the apps, backend services, and internal tools.
Build and maintain the data services that power product features such as template recommendations and personalization.
Support subscription analytics infrastructure: cohorting, LTV, ROAS, retention, and forecasting pipelines across iOS and Android.
Develop internal libraries and shared SQL/Python primitives for app metrics calculation, used by the broader team.
Data quality, observability & craft
Help implement monitoring, alerting, and data quality checks so we catch issues before stakeholders do.
Contribute to lineage and documentation that makes the warehouse navigable for everyone who uses it.
Support GDPR-compliant data handling, including consent propagation, retention policies, and deletion across systems.
Help maintain consistency of event schemas and metric definitions across web and mobile platforms.
Be a contributor to — and over time a champion of — data culture across the company.
You should have
Technical foundations
Languages: Solid proficiency in Python and SQL. Comfort with TypeScript/NodeJS or similar for service work is a plus, not a requirement.
Warehousing: Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses, ideally BigQuery — or strong fundamentals you're ready to transfer.
Pipelines: Some experience building or contributing to production data pipelines, from ingestion through transformation to serving.
Cloud infrastructure: Exposure to GCP (or AWS/Azure) is a strong plus. Familiarity with infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform) is welcome but can be learned on the job.
Mindset & approach
Curiosity and care for craft: You take pride in the quality of what you ship and want to keep getting better at it.
Data pipelines owner mindset: You're interested in fully managing data flows from ingestion to processing, even if you haven't done it end-to-end yet.
Quality and pragmatism: You can work at a healthy pace without compromising the things that matter — clarity, reliability, and correctness.
Can-do attitude: Self-motivated problem solver with an eye for detail and an internal drive for excellence.
Product & business understanding
Subscription apps: Experience with or strong interest in subscription-based app businesses and freemium models.
Cross-platform thinking: Interest in the complexities of unifying data across web, iOS, and Android.
Analytics-driven approach: Comfortable working closely with analysts and data scientists, and wanting the data layer you build to support the insights the business needs.
Collaboration & communication
Team player: You work closely and generously with analysts, data scientists, backend, and mobile engineers.
Clear communication: You can explain what you're working on in a way that makes sense to teammates who don't share your technical background.
We offer
High-impact role: You'll work on the data platform that powers analytics, forecasting, and AI features for millions of users.
Room to grow: Take ownership of systems from early on, with support from experienced teammates and the space to develop into broader scope over time.
Startup environment: Fast-paced decision making with direct impact on product direction.
Strong team: Work alongside experienced data and engineering professionals in central Stockholm.
Competitive package: Market-rate salary with opportunities for professional development.
Creative culture: Be part of a profitable company that values creativity and user experience.
